Fosse Systems is a small bench in Leicester building machines one at a time. No production line, no upsell script, and no part in a build that we could not justify to your face.
Why we started
Too many people weresold the wrong machine.
The same machine kept coming through the door. Bought online, built around an enormous graphics card that was being starved by the processor behind it, cooled by about sixteen pounds worth of fans in a case with nowhere for the air to go, and powered by a supply the manufacturer had not troubled to put a name on. It ran hot and it ran loud, and it had reached its limit before the box was even out of the hallway.
That is a design decision rather than an accident. The components that photograph well are the ones that get the budget, while the components that keep a machine alive for five years are the ones quietly cut back, because nobody puts a power supply on the box art. Fosse was started to build a machine the other way round.
What comes out of that is rarely glamorous on paper. It is a machine that is still quiet in its third year, that will take a single new graphics card and carry on for another two, and that you can open up yourself without being confronted by a nest of cable ties.
